With VMware products, you can build variety of Virtualized infrastructure depending on your needs. The current most advanced product is VMware Infrastructure 3 (VI3) Enterprise. Virtualization software of VI3 is called VMware ESXi, which is hypervisor, letting guest virtual machines directly utilize hardware resources with little overhead (ESXi itself is very small as 32MB). Additional features of VI3 includes VMware HA (High Availability - clustering virtual machines), VMotion (Live migration of virtual machine to another physical machine), VMware DRS (Distributed Resource Scheduling - optimizing hardware resource allocation), VMware Consolidated Backup (VCB - file backup and image backup for virtual machines).
